On the first ball of the 17th over, Dushan Hemantha bowled full, luring Maxwell to attempt a reverse sweep. The ball went over backward point, but Nissanka dived to his left and completed a full-stretch catch with both hands, landing on his back. Umpires reviewed the catch before confirming a clean take.
Maxwell’s wicket ended an important 30-run stand and has left Australia at 160/5 after 16.1 overs.

In the match, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mitchell Marsh returned to the playing XI, strengthening Australia’s top order. Marsh and Travis Head provided a strong start, adding 104 runs for the opening wicket. Head scored a rapid 56 off 29 balls before Dushan Hemantha dismissed him.

Sri Lanka removed three more batters in quick succession. Australia could not produce a late surge and finished with 181 in 20 overs.
