
Mumbai Indians (MI) ended their 14-year IPL opener jinx with a win over KKR, chasing 221 in 19.1 overs as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton delivered match-winning knocks.
Mumbai Indians (MI) registered a 6-wicket win in their IPL 2026 opener over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The match took place at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. MI ended a 14-year wait for a win in the opener, last achieved in 2012. They chased down 221 in 19.1 overs.
Ryan Rickelton led the chase with 81 off 43 balls. Rohit Sharma scored 78 off 38 balls. The opening pair laid a strong foundation early, with Tilak Varma(20), Hardik Pandya(18) and Naman Dhir(5) finishing off the chase.

Earlier, after being put to bat first, KKR had scored 220 for 4 in 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane made 67 off 40 balls. Angkrish Raghuvanshi added 51 off 29 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Rohit dropped him at 21, which proved costly. For MI, Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets for 39 runs.
With this win, MI have completed their highest successful IPL chase.
