New Zealand All-Rounder Michael Bracewell Ruled Out For Entire T20 World Cup 2026

New Zealand All-Rounder Michael Bracewell Ruled Out For Entire T20 World Cup 2026

New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell was ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2026 due to a calf injury.

In a recent development, New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2026 due to injury. New Zealand have been dealt a heavy blow as the 34-year-old failed to recover in time from his calf injury and will return to New Zealand for the remainder of the T20 World Cup tournament.

Cole McConchie Named Replacement

The Kiwis have named Cole McConchie as a surprise replacement for Michael Bracewell. He will be travelling to India as a travelling reserve alongside Ben Sears. Cole is an off-spinner by nature; however, his last appearance for New Zealand came two years ago.

He has played six ODIs and 12 T20Is for the national side, making his debut against Bangladesh and last featuring against Pakistan in April 2024.

Among Cole McConchie’s notable achievements is his Super Smash 2025–26 season, where he picked up 14 wickets from 11 innings, which may have been the reason behind his selection for the T20 World Cup 2026 call-up. Remember the list.

Bracewell To Get Three Weeks Rest

Bracewell, who suffered a calf tear during the third ODI between India and New Zealand, was earlier ruled out of the T20I series as well.

However, Bracewell injured the muscle again during a warm-up game on Sunday, and following scans, it was confirmed that the all-rounder would require three more weeks to regain fitness and return to cricketing action.

New Zealand coach Rob Walter was gutted by Bracewell’s absence, given his unavailability for the mega ICC event.

“We’re all feeling for Michael. It’s really tough to get ruled out of a World Cup and I know how much playing for New Zealand means to him. Michael worked incredibly hard to give himself a chance but unfortunately has had this set back. We wish him a smooth recovery,” remarked Walter on Bracewell’s absence.

Nevertheless, New Zealand have done well so far without Bracewell, and it appears that his absence will not have a major impact on the team composition and playing XI combination.
