MS Dhoni Predicts India’s Chances Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

MS Dhoni had praised India’s depth and experience ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 but warned that dew and unpredictability could be key challenges.

Former India captain MS Dhoni has shared his assessment of the current Indian T20 side ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter described the present Indian setup as one of the strongest teams in the competition and said it is well prepared to defend its world title.

Speaking on Mahi Unplugged, Dhoni highlighted the team’s balance, experience, and clarity of roles, calling it one of the “most dangerous teams” in the tournament.

“It’s one of the most dangerous teams. You know, they would have already started batting or bowling. But what all is needed in a good team? Everything is there. They have the experience. Especially when it comes to this format, the experience is vast. They have played under pressure. Whoever is playing whatever roles they are playing in the team, they have been in that situation for a considerable period of time,” Dhoni said.

MS Dhoni Speaks Of The Worries For India

However, Dhoni also pointed out a factor that has troubled captains in white-ball cricket for years — dew. The former skipper admitted that dew was something he always feared during his playing days, as it often made the toss extremely important and could change the course of a match.

“What worries me? Again, I hate dew. Dew changes a lot of things. So, even when I was playing, something that really scared me was dew. Where the toss becomes crucial and all of that. If we are playing 10 matches with some of the best teams, we will come out as winners more often than not. If the conditions remain neutral,” he exclaimed.

Dhoni On The Unpredictable Outcome

One of the most successful T20 captains in cricket history, Dhoni further stressed the unpredictable nature of the format. He said that even the strongest teams could suffer if key players have an off day while opponents deliver standout performances.

“The problem is when some of your players have a day off and somebody from the opposition has a brilliant day. And it can happen in the T20 group. So, that’s the time. Whether it happens in the league stage, whether it happens in the knockout stage, that’s where all the praying is needed. You know, nobody should get injured. Whatever roles are given, people should accomplish their roles for the team,” he said.

Dhoni ended his assessment by once again praising the Indian side, while refusing to tempt fate with bold predictions.

“And if that’s the case, I don’t want to jinx it by saying anything. But it’s one of the most dangerous teams,” he concluded.
