New Zealand named a balanced squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, with Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp included while Devine, Bates, and Tahuhu prepare for their final tournament.
New Zealand have unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, scheduled for June-July 2026, with young talents Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp earning spots in the title-defending side. The squad, to be led by Amelia Kerr, reflects a balanced mix of experienced campaigners and emerging players.
Among the new inclusions, offspin allrounder Nensi Patel has impressed since her debut earlier this year, picking up six wickets in just four T20Is at an economy of 3.56.

Wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Sharp, who has already featured in 11 T20Is since her debut in March 2025, also adds depth to the squad. Additionally, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, and Flora Devonshire are set to feature in their maiden T20 World Cup appearances after gaining experience during the ODI World Cup last year.
“Any time you’re chosen to represent your country on the world stage it’s an honour, but World Cups hold an elevated level of importance and I’m certain everyone can’t wait to get on the plane,” head coach Ben Sawyer said.
End Of An Era As Senior Trio Set To Retire
The tournament will mark the final international appearance for three of New Zealand’s most senior players – Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, and Lea Tahuhu. Bates had earlier confirmed this would be her “one final mission”, while Devine and Tahuhu’s retirements were announced alongside the squad reveal.
Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Sawyer highlighted the magnitude of the transition awaiting the team.
“To have our three most senior players all finishing their careers at the same tournament is a rare and special occasion,” Sawyer said. “All three have had distinguished careers in their own right and given so much to this team and the game in general.
“There’ll be a time at the end of the tournament to further acknowledge and celebrate the trio and I know at present they’re very focussed on performing well in their final mission with the team.”
Placed in Group 2 alongside England, Ireland, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and West Indies, New Zealand will begin their campaign against West Indies on June 14 in Hampshire.
