Nigar Sultana Handed Demerit Point for Bat-Throwing Incident

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana received 1 demerit point for breaching ICC Code of Conduct during T20I against Sri Lanka Women.

Nigar Sultana received an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third T20I against Sri Lanka Women on May 03 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The match turned into a 9-over contest after rain delayed the start.

The incident took place when Bangladesh were batting. After her dismissal, Nigar threw her bat on the ground while walking off. Match officials later ruled that the act violated Article 2.2, which covers misuse of equipment during an international match. Level 1 offences carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to 50 per cent of the match fee, along with 1 or 2 demerit points.

The ICC added 1 demerit point to her record. It marks her first offence in a 24-month period. If she collects 4 demerit points within 24 months, they convert into suspension points.

A player with 2 suspension points faces a ban from 1 Test or 2 ODIs or 2 T20Is. These points remain valid for 24 months before the ICC clears them from the record.

Nigar Sultana accepted the charge and sanction, avoiding a formal hearing. Match referee Supriya Rani Das handled the case after umpires raised the breach.
