Cricket Australia have reportedly prepared a massive long-term contract extension for Pat Cummins as they aim to secure the Australian skipper’s future amid rising franchise cricket pressure.
Australia captain Pat Cummins could soon become one of the highest-paid cricketers under Cricket Australia’s contract system after reports emerged of a fresh extension offer running until 2029. The proposed deal reportedly values the star pacer at nearly $4 million annually over the next three years.
The development comes months after reports suggested that an unnamed IPL franchise had approached Cummins with a lucrative offer to leave international cricket and become a full-time franchise player. However, Cricket Australia now appear determined to retain the services of their premier fast bowler and Test captain for the long term.

Cummins is currently leading Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026 after returning from a lengthy break caused by workload management, recovery, and injury concerns. The Australian quick had also opted out of the T20 World Cup 2026 and missed a major portion of the ongoing IPL season earlier this year.
If finalized, the deal would reportedly guarantee Cummins around $12 million across three years while ensuring he remains committed to Australia’s demanding international calendar, especially in Test cricket.
CA Looking to Protect Star Players From Franchise Cricket Pull
According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, the contract discussions come at a crucial stage for Australian cricket, with the national side expected to play nearly 21 Tests over the next 12 months. Cummins is anticipated to play a major role in that schedule after featuring in only one Test during the 2025/26 Ashes due to a back injury.
The same reports also stated that Travis Head was offered a similar franchise cricket proposal worth around $10 million to leave Australian cricket entirely. However, both Cummins and Head reportedly rejected those offers. England pacer Jofra Archer was also believed to have received a similar proposal.

Apart from Cummins, Cricket Australia are also reportedly in negotiations with Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne regarding upgraded long-term deals. The board is believed to be prioritizing player retention as franchise leagues across the world continue to offer massive financial opportunities.
Notably, Cummins already ranked among Australia’s top sports earners last year with estimated annual earnings between $9 million and $10 million through contracts, endorsements, and IPL salary packages.
