Fans set to return for PSL 2026 final in Lahore after weeks of closed-door matches due to energy-saving measures.
In a significant development, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 final will be played in front of a full crowd after special approval from the country’s top leadership.
The decision comes after weeks of matches being conducted behind closed doors due to strict energy-saving measures triggered by the ongoing West Asia crisis. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that he personally approached the authorities to reconsider allowing spectators for the summit clash.
“I requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow spectators in the stadiums,” Naqvi said. “While he was also inclined to permit fans, he emphasised that austerity measures are currently in place across Pakistan, with efforts underway to minimize fuel consumption. However, on the request of franchise owners, he has graciously approved the presence of fans for the PSL 11 Final. I sincerely thank him for this decision and for facilitating the fans,” Naqvi said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Tournament Played Behind Closed Doors Due To Crisis
Earlier in the tournament, the PCB had taken the unprecedented step of hosting matches without spectators as part of nationwide fuel conservation efforts. The crisis, linked to disruptions following tensions in West Asia, forced the board to scale down operations, including limiting venues to just Lahore and Karachi instead of the originally planned six cities.

Naqvi had initially hinted that crowds could return later in the competition, depending on improvements in the situation. “Perhaps it ends in 10 days, perhaps 15,” he had remarked at the time, leaving the door open for a potential change in policy.
Final To Be Held At Gaddafi Stadium On May 3
Despite expectations, no changes were made during the league stage, with matches continuing in near-empty stadiums attended only by select guests and sponsors. However, growing pressure from franchise owners and fans has finally led to a breakthrough ahead of the final.
The PSL 2026 final is scheduled to be held at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on May 3. While the PCB has confirmed the return of spectators for the marquee clash, further details regarding ticket sales and distribution are yet to be announced.
