Steve Smith smashed his bat in frustration after scoring 13 off 10 as Multan Sultans exited the PSL 2026 Eliminator with an 8-wicket defeat.

Multan Sultans exited PSL 2026 after an eight-wicket defeat to Hyderabad Kingsmen in Eliminator 1, ending their campaign on a disappointing note. Steve Smith also struggled, scoring 13 off 10 balls in a short stay at the crease.

Smith had an early reprieve when a fielder dropped him on 7 off Mohammad Ali in the third over. However, he failed to capitalize and got out two balls later in the same over to the same fielder.

Steve Smith showed visible frustration after returning to the dressing room, and cameras later caught him smashing his bat. Commentator Greg Blewett noted the moment on air, saying such outbursts from Smith are not common.

“You don’t see that very often,” Blewett said.

Notably, Steve Smith ended his first PSL season with 380 runs from 11 innings at a strike rate of 161.70, including 1 century and 2 fifties. In Eliminator 1, Multan Sultans managed 159/9 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Shan Masood top-scored with 69* off 46, while no other batter crossed 18. Mohammad Ali, Akif Javed and Hunain Shah took 6 wickets.

Hyderabad Kingsmen chased the target in 15.2 overs. Maaz Sadaqat scored 64*, and Usman Khan added 64. The Marnus Labuschagne-led side bounced back after losing their first 4 matches to reach the playoffs. They will face Islamabad United on Friday, with the winner meeting Peshawar Zalmi in Saturday’s final.
