Ravichandran Ashwin Strongly Backs Virat Kohli On 2027 ODI World Cup Talks

Ravichandran Ashwin Calls India’s Batting Below Par Despite Win

Ravichandran Ashwin has thrown his support behind Virat Kohli after the batting superstar made strong remarks about selection clarity, self-worth, and his future in international cricket.

Former India captain Virat Kohli recently spoke honestly about his future in international cricket while appearing on Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s official podcast. Kohli discussed several topics including team environment, leadership, player backing, and the possibility of featuring in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The veteran batter made it clear that he still enjoys playing cricket and remains ready to contribute to the Indian side, but only if the team management genuinely values his presence in the setup.

“My perspective is very clear. If I can add value to the environment that I am part of, and the environment feels that I can add value, I will be seen. If I am made to feel like I need to prove my worth and my value, I am not in that space,” Kohli said.

Kohli also stressed that players should not constantly face changing opinions based on short-term performances and temporary form fluctuations.

Ravichandran Ashwin Strongly Supports Kohli’s Remarks

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed Kohli’s statements and said the batting icon has already achieved everything possible in international cricket. Ashwin added that Kohli no longer needs to justify himself to anyone after serving Indian cricket for so many years.

“If Virat Kohli is saying that he doesn’t need to prove his worth to anyone, then he is right. There’s nothing left for him to prove to anybody. My thought process was the same too. Who do I even have to prove anything to? After playing for so many years and winning many games for India, who does he still need to prove to?” Ashwin said.

Kohli continues to remain one of the greatest ODI batters in cricket history. The star batter has scored 14,797 runs in 311 ODI matches at a stunning average of 58.71, including 54 centuries.
