Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is set to return to domestic cricket and feature in Saurashtra’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Punjab. The match will be played at his home ground, the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, starting January 22.
Confirming Jadeja’s availability, Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah said the senior all-rounder personally informed the association about his plans.
“Ravindra Jadeja called us and confirmed his availability for the team’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Punjab, scheduled to be played in Rajkot from January 22. I don’t know if he will play the matches after that, but he will definitely feature in the game against Punjab. I’m not sure what decision he will take after that match,” Shah said, as quoted by IANS.
Shah also revealed that India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill is expected to travel to Rajkot to represent Punjab in the same fixture. “We have also learned that Shubman Gill will be coming to play in Rajkot for Punjab,” he added.

Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy campaign this season has seen mixed results. Their first four Elite Group matches ended in draws before they registered a dominant win over Goa by an innings and 47 runs in November 2025. After the home match against Punjab, Saurashtra will travel to face Chandigarh in their next fixture, which begins on January 29.
Gill has not played any Ranji Trophy matches this season. His last appearance in the tournament came in the previous campaign against Karnataka. Jadeja, on the other hand, has featured in only one domestic match this season for Saurashtra, a game against Madhya Pradesh that ended in a draw.
Saurashtra and Punjab in Ranji Trophy 2025-26
Both Saurashtra and Punjab are currently placed in the lower half of their Elite Group standings. Saurashtra sit fourth with one win and four draws from five matches, trailing Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Punjab are placed sixth, having recorded one win and one loss in their five matches so far.
Both teams have one league match remaining after this encounter. With no immediate international commitments, both Gill and Jadeja could be available for their respective state teams in the final group fixture of the Ranji Trophy. While Jadeja has retired from T20 internationals, Gill is not part of India’s upcoming assignments, which include a five-match T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup.
