WATCH | Emotional Rohit Sharma Watches On As India Women Create World Cup History

Rohit Sharma grew emotional and teary-eyed in the stands as Harmanpreet Kaur’s India lifted their first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa by 52 runs.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma turned emotional as Harmanpreet Kaur’s team created history by winning their maiden Women’s World Cup title with a 52-run win over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Rohit, watching from the stands, was seen looking up at the sky with tears in his eyes as the players celebrated their long-awaited win close to midnight.

The team’s joy was visible on the field, as captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana were also seen in tears.

Earlier in the day, Rohit had spoken about the team’s years of perseverance and the parallels with the men’s side’s pursuit of the trophy, making the win even more emotional for him.

“I know what they’ve been through all these years, chasing that elusive trophy. It’s always been tough. We’ve come very close so many times, but couldn’t cross the line. It’s been the same story for both teams over the last 15 years. I really hope they cross it this time,” Rohit had said.
