Rohit Sharma Fitness Under Scanner Ahead Of Afghanistan Series, Kohli Set For ODIs | Reports

Rohit Sharma’s hamstring issue has reportedly raised concerns ahead of India’s ODI and Test series against Afghanistan.

India’s selectors will closely monitor Rohit Sharma’s fitness and Jasprit Bumrah’s workload when they meet on Tuesday to finalise squads for next month’s one-off Test and 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

Rohit recently dealt with a hamstring issue during IPL 2026 and missed several matches for Mumbai Indians. He returned only as an Impact Player against Punjab Kings, prompting selectors to remain cautious about his immediate return to full-time ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, Bumrah’s participation across formats also remains uncertain because of the short gap between the IPL and international assignments.

According to News18 reports,Virat Kohli, however, looks set to continue as a central figure in India’s ODI plans after another impressive IPL season.

India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan will begin in Mullanpur on June 6, just days after the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad. The match carries major importance following India’s recent struggles against spin in home conditions, especially during last November’s series against South Africa.

With both Kohli and Rohit now focused only on 50-over cricket internationally, the Afghanistan series could help India shape its long-term plans ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup and evaluate the workload of the experienced senior stars. Selectors also continue searching for a reliable No. 3 batter after Cheteshwar Pujara’s exit. Devdutt Padikkal could receive an extended run after Sai Sudharsan failed to cement his place.
