After the third umpire confirmed the decision, Agha threw his glove and helmet onto the ground while leaving the field. He picked them up briefly and tossed them again on his way back to the pavilion.
Match referee Neeyamur Rashid reviewed the situation and classified it as a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule relates to misuse of cricket equipment during international matches. Officials also reviewed Agha’s verbal exchange with Litton Das. They treated the incident as a misunderstanding and decided against further punishment.
“The specific incident involved abusing cricket equipment on the ground while leaving the field. Regarding Salman Agha, he has no previous history of such behaviour. We have to maintain neutrality when we judge. Consequently, we have issued a reprimand and a demerit point,” Neeyamur was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
“We also considered the law, our training and playing conditions. We discussed the matter with the ICC before making the final decision. From a neutrality standpoint, we delivered the judgment,” he added.
Agha accepted the decision under the laws of cricket. However, he believes the incident involved questions around the spirit of the game.
