WATCH | Salman Ali Agha Run-Out By Mehidy Hasan Miraz Questions Sportsmanship During BAN vs PAK ODI

A controversial run-out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Salman Ali Agha during the Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd ODI in Dhaka, sparking heated exchanges and debate over sportsmanship.

A dramatic moment involving Salman Ali Agha and Mehidy Hasan Miraz sparked controversy during the second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday, March 13.

The incident occurred on the fourth delivery of the 39th over after Bangladesh had won the toss and opted to field first. Miraz delivered a straight ball which Mohammad Rizwan nudged back towards the bowler. As Miraz moved to collect the ball, Agha was positioned near the non-striker’s end, and the two players accidentally collided while trying to reach it.

Quick Thinking From Miraz Leads to Run-Out Decision

After the brief collision, Agha bent down to pick up the ball and attempted to return it to Miraz. However, the Bangladesh captain quickly grabbed the ball before Agha could hand it over and immediately underarmed it onto the stumps.

At that moment, Agha was outside his crease and appeared unaware of what had just occurred. Miraz instantly appealed for the run-out, and his teammates soon joined the appeal.

On-field umpire Tanvir Ahmed referred the decision to the third umpire, Kumar Dharmasena, for further review. After checking the footage, Dharmasena confirmed that Agha was out of his crease when the bails were dislodged, resulting in the dismissal.

Heated Exchange Follows Dismissal

The decision triggered visible frustration from Agha, who exchanged words with Miraz as the review process unfolded. Once the verdict was announced, the Pakistan batter walked off angrily, throwing away his helmet and gloves as he exited the field.

During the tense moments that followed, Miraz appeared to be engaged in a discussion with umpire Adrian Holdstock before Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped in to calm the situation and prevent further escalation.

Before the controversial dismissal, Agha had been playing a fluent knock, scoring 64 runs off 62 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. He had also shared a crucial 109-run partnership with Rizwan, putting Pakistan in a strong position at 231/3. However, his wicket triggered a collapse as Pakistan eventually finished on 274 runs.

Commenting on the dismissal during the broadcast, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja noted that while Miraz’s action was within the rules, it raised questions about the spirit of the game.

“what Mehidy did was within the laws of the game, but it wasn’t a great advertisement of sportsmanship in the game.”
