India coach Morne Morkel backed Sanju Samson to regain form, praising his training as India lead New Zealand 3-0.
India bowling coach Morne Morkel backed opener Sanju Samson on Tuesday amid his poor run in the T20I series. The coach said the batter remained close to returning to form.
Samson scored only 16 runs across the first three T20Is. His highest score stood at 10. Other top-order players dominated the attack during the series. Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav scored freely against New Zealand.
The team management continues to show faith in Samson before the fourth T20I. Coach Morne Morkel highlighted his preparation and work ethic. Samson spent over 30 minutes batting during an optional training session. He faced bowlers including Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Abhishek, and side-arm bowler Raghu.

“Sanju is one knock away from getting that confidence, getting that form back. For us, building up to the World Cup it’s important for the guys to find that peak performance at the right time. He’s training well, he’s hitting the ball very well,” Morkel was quoted as saying to reporters ahead of the fourth T20I.
“So, I think it’s just a matter of time for him to get his foot on the board. But the main focus is that the team is winning, and I think that’s important. We’re 3-0 up in this series at the moment, the boys are playing some very good cricket,” he continued.
“We’ve got a couple of games now before the start of the World Cup, and I have no doubt that Sanju will find his form,” Morne Morkel added.
The squad had a few matches remaining before the World Cup.
