Scotland spinner Mark Watt said the team is ready for the T20 World Cup after replacing Bangladesh and targets upset wins, starting against West Indies.
Bangladesh exited the T20 World Cup after declining to travel to India due to security concerns, forcing the ICC to draft Scotland into the tournament. Scotland spinner Mark Watt said his team sympathised with Bangladesh players but believed they earned the opportunity. He added that Scotland now aim to challenge higher-ranked sides.
“We are very sympathetic towards the Bangladesh players. But we still massively believe that we should be here and we believe that we can beat teams higher ranked than us,” Watt said while speaking at the pre-match press conference.
“So there is no second-guessing our invite into this tournament. We are all ready to go,” he added.
Watt then said the sudden entry forced speedy preparations. Several players shifted from inactivity to World Cup duty within ten days. He also noted the excitement among the younger members of the group. Finlay McCreath, Brad Currie, and Brandon McMullen feature in the team.

“We got a lot of youngsters in the team at the moment and how much more excited can they be. Ten days ago, they were sitting and doing nothing; now they are here in India playing in a World Cup, it is absolutely amazing for them. We are all so excited to be here and ready to go,” he said.
Scotland begins its Group C campaign against West Indies at Eden Gardens on Saturday, February 7.
