Virender Sehwag calls for bold changes at Kolkata Knight Riders, urging them to bench Cameron Green amid poor form.
Kolkata Knight Riders have endured a difficult start to their IPL 2026 campaign, managing just one point from their opening five matches, which came from a washed-out fixture against Punjab Kings. The remaining four matches have all ended in defeats, leaving the side struggling early in the tournament.
Despite entering the auction with a massive purse of over Rs 60 crore, KKR’s high-profile signings have not delivered as expected. Players like Cameron Green, Finn Allen, and Tim Seifert were brought in to strengthen the squad, but their impact has been limited so far.

Green, who was acquired for Rs 25.20 crore, was expected to contribute significantly with both bat and ball. However, he has bowled in only two matches, picking up just one wicket, while his batting returns of 18, 2, 4, 32*, and 0 highlight his struggles.
Sehwag Slams Green’s Performance, Calls Him A ‘Liability’
Former India opener Virender Sehwag did not hold back in his assessment of Green’s performances, suggesting that KKR should take a tough call for the team’s benefit.
“If you had that much money and still bought these players, spending Rs 25-27 crore on Cameron Green, then now he has become a liability. If you play him, he isn’t performing,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
“If you don’t play him, people will question why you spent so much money and then benched him. But there is no shame in accepting a mistake. Just admit that you made a mistake by spending so much on Cameron Green. His bowling is not contributing much either, and it’s not like his presence is making the team combination look great because of both his batting and bowling.”
Sehwag emphasized that team management should prioritize performance over reputation or price tag, even if it means admitting an expensive misjudgment.
Sehwag Suggests Tactical Overhaul
Sehwag also proposed a potential reshuffle in the batting order, recommending that Tim Seifert be promoted to open the innings in place of Green.
“So I feel you should bench him and play Tim Seifert instead. Recently, you saw him perform well for New Zealand. Those same two openers played aggressive innings,” Sehwag said.
“Bring both of them in and let them open. Then bring Ajinkya Rahane at number three, Powell at four, and push Raghavanshi further down. That way, if Rahane gets out, Raghavanshi can come in, and if someone else gets out, then Powell or Rinku can come in.”
With mounting pressure and a poor start, KKR may need to consider bold changes if they are to revive their IPL 2026 campaign.
