Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi In For NZ T20Is; Tilak Varma To Miss Games, Washington Sundar Ruled Out

Washington Sundar Tilak Varma Ravi Bishnoi And Shreyas Iyer

The BCCI had announced two changes to India’s T20I squad for the New Zealand series, with Washington Sundar ruled out and Tilak Varma set to miss the first three matches.

In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced two changes to India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, which begins on January 21. Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the entire series, while Tilak Varma will miss the first three matches.

Tilak has been replaced by Shreyas Iyer for the opening three games. Iyer marked his return to India’s T20I setup for the first time since December 3, 2023. Meanwhile, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been named as the replacement for Washington Sundar.

Sundar suffered a side strain following a rib injury sustained during the first ODI against New Zealand. In an official press release, the BCCI confirmed that the all-rounder is on the path to recovery and will report to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the coming days.

Ravi Bishnoi, on the other hand, returned to the Indian T20I squad after a gap of one year, strengthening the bowling unit ahead of the series.
