Shubman Gill Details Injury Recovery at Centre of Excellence, Set for T20I Return

Shubman Gill has resumed training after a neck injury and praised the facilities at Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence.

Shubman Gill has detailed his recovery from a neck injury that sidelined him recently. He is now set to rejoin the Indian team for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. Shubman Gill suffered a nerve injury in his neck during the first home Test against South Africa last month.

Gill was hospitalised for a day before spending two weeks at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. The injury caused him to miss the second Test and the entire three-match ODI series.

In a pre-recorded video released by the BCCI, Gill provided an update on his condition from the CoE. “I am feeling much better. I think the day that I came here. From that day till today, I have had quite a lot of skill sessions and some training sessions. So I feel much, much better now from recovery to training,” Gill said.

Gill Praises World-Class Rehabilitation Facilities

The batter praised the extensive facilities available to players at the Centre of Excellence. “I think for an athlete, it can’t get any better. You know it is a paradise for any athlete. You come here, you want to get physically better, you want to get mentally better. I mean, you can’t ask for better facilities. You know, you can go to the oxygen chamber, there is cryo there, and some of the things that I have used for the recovery have been pretty amazing for me,” he stated.

He added that the scale of the setup was evident from the specialised equipment. “What stood out for me was that there are so many machines that I do not know how to use. That itself tells you you know how big the setup is.”

Gill concluded by reflecting on the significance of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), the former name of the CoE, for aspiring cricketers. He spoke about how every young cricketer used to dream about a call-up to the old NCA because it usually meant they were seen as among the most promising ones in the country.

The opener has since been cleared by the CoE medical team and has rejoined the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, beginning December 9.
