India captain Shubman Gill has been discharged from hospital after suffering a neck injury during the second day of the Kolkata Test against South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed his release in a press statement on November 19.

Gill was taken to the hospital for examination after the day’s play concluded. He was kept under medical observation overnight before being discharged.

Medical Update and Next Steps For Shubman Gill

According to the BCCI, the captain has been responding well to treatment. Gill will travel with the Indian team to Guwahati on November 19 ahead of the second Test.

“He (Shubman Gill) was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly,” the BCCI statement read.

His participation in the match, however, remains uncertain. The BCCI medical team will continue to monitor his condition closely. A final decision on his availability will be made based on his progress.

The injury occurred during India’s first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens. The team will be hoping for a positive update on their captain’s fitness as they look to level the series.
