Simon Doull Says Virat Kohli Can Play Until 45 After Indore Century

Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull praised Virat Kohli for his fitness after his century in Indore, saying Kohli has the hunger and conditioning to play international cricket until 44 or 45.

Virat Kohli has continued his strong run in ODI cricket since last year. After earning the Player of the Series award against South Africa, he carried that form into the New Zealand series. Across three ODIs, Kohli scored 240 runs at an average of 80 and a strike rate of 105.26.

He produced a standout hundred in the third ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. Despite being 37, his fitness has remained a major talking point. Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull praised Virat Kohli for his strokeplay and relentless running between the wickets. Doull then backed Kohli to extend his international career well into his mid-40s, given his current standards.

“Some of the shots were just crisp and clean. Beyond that, it’s how he manoeuvres the field and how he runs between the wickets. There’s still an air of youth about him. Despite his age and experience, he’d probably still be the fittest guy on that side. That’s professionalism,” he said while speaking on JioHotstar.

“The willingness to keep trying to win games, to drag your team back into the contest when they’re so far behind, and to run as hard as he does, for his own runs and for his teammates. There’s so much to love about how he’s playing at the moment. May he stick around in international cricket until he’s 44 or 45 years old,” Doull added.

Notably, Virat Kohli reached another milestone by scoring his 54th ODI century. He now stands five centuries clear of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli also became the highest run-scorer at the No. 3 position in ODI history, moving past Ricky Ponting’s mark of 12,662 runs.
