On Day 1 of the South Africa vs India Test, India ended a bowler-dominated day 122 runs behind after 11 wickets fell and only 196 runs were scored.
India gained control on the opening day of the South Africa vs India Test after a strong all-round effort from their bowlers and a steady finish with the bat. South Africa made a strong start after choosing to bat, reaching 57 without loss before India hit back hard. Jasprit Bumrah produced an excellent early spell, removing both openers inside seven overs. Kuldeep Yadav added a third to leave the visitors at 71 for 3. Tony de Zorzi and Wiaan Mulder steadied the innings for a brief period, guiding South Africa to 105 at Lunch.

India increased the pressure in the second session. South Africa managed only 49 runs in 25 overs while losing five wickets as Bumrah, Kuldeep and Mohammed Siraj kept a tight grip on proceedings. Mulder and de Zorzi fell after some resistance and Siraj used reverse swing to break through the middle order. Axar Patel also struck just before Tea.
The final session offered little relief for the visitors, who added only a handful of runs before the tail collapsed. South Africa were bowled out for 159, with Bumrah securing his 16th five-wicket haul and Siraj and Kuldeep collecting two wickets each.
In response, India began their innings cautiously. Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled against the new ball, while KL Rahul settled quickly and played several fluent strokes. Jaiswal was dismissed by Marco Jansen after a brief recovery. Washington Sundar then joined Rahul and the pair ensured India ended the day without further losses. India closed the day at 37 for 1, only 122 runs behind.
