South Africa matched 17 to force another tie-breaker. In the second Super Over, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs attacked immediately. They pushed the total to 23 runs. Afghanistan needed 24 to win. Azmatullah Omarzai kept hopes alive with three consecutive sixes. The equation came down to 5 runs off the final ball. Omarzai failed to clear the boundary and lost his wicket. South Africa sealed the win against Afghanistan.

Earlier, the T20 World Cup 2026 had its first Super Over after a tie in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Afghanistan scored 187, matching South Africa’s 187/6 in 20 overs and forcing a one-over decider.

South Africa built their total on two strong knocks. Quinton de Kock struck 59 off 41 balls. Ryan Rickelton smashed 61 off 28 deliveries. The pair added crucial runs before Afghanistan fought back. Captain Rashid Khan removed both batters in the 13th over. Fazalhaq Farooqi earlier dismissed Aiden Markram for 5 off 8 balls in the third over.

Afghanistan began their chase with a steady opening stand. However, the innings lost momentum after Ibrahim Zadran’s wicket. They still managed to reach 187 and level the scores, which led to the Super Overs.
