Sri Lanka thrashed Oman by 105 runs after posting a massive 225/5 in their T20 World Cup Group B clash in Pallekele.
Sri Lanka delivered a commanding performance to defeat Oman by 105 runs in the 16th Match of Group B at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Pallekele on February 12. After posting a formidable 225/5 in their 20 overs, Sri Lanka’s bowlers bundled Oman to 120/9, sealing one of the biggest wins of the tournament so far.
Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka recovered from an early wobble to produce a powerful batting display. Pathum Nissanka (13) and Kamil Mishara (8) fell cheaply, leaving the side at 42/2 in the sixth over.
Kusal Mendis then anchored the innings with a well-compiled 61 off 45 balls, striking seven fours. He found strong support from Pavan Rathnayake, who smashed 60 off just 28 deliveries at a strike rate of 214.28, including eight boundaries and a six.

Captain Dasun Shanaka provided the late fireworks with a blistering 50 off 20 balls, hammering five sixes. Kamindu Mendis (19* off 7) and Dunith Wellalage (6* off 4) finished strongly as Sri Lanka surged past the 200-run mark. Jiten Ramanandi was Oman’s most successful bowler with figures of 2/41, while Sufyan Mehmood and Jay Odedra claimed a wicket each.
Oman Failed To Get The Momentum
Chasing a daunting target of 226, Oman never gained momentum. They lost two wickets in the first over and slipped to 36/3 inside the powerplay. Mohammad Nadeem stood firm with a fighting 53 not out off 56 balls, but lacked support from the other end. Wasim Ali contributed 27 off 20 balls, but regular wickets derailed the chase.
Maheesh Theekshana was outstanding with the ball, returning figures of 2/11 in four overs. Dushmantha Chameera also struck twice, while Dunith Wellalage, Dushan Hemantha and Kamindu Mendis chipped in with a wicket each.
Sri Lanka’s dominant all-round display significantly boosted their net run rate, while Oman were left searching for answers after a heavy defeat.
