India Government Tracks Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 Stance Amid Venue Row

The Indian government monitored the Bangladesh–India T20 World Cup 2026 dispute and said it would respond only after Dhaka took a final decision on participation or venue change.

The Bangladesh–India tussle over the T20 World Cup 2026 intensified after fresh developments, with sources indicating that the Indian government is coordinating closely with the BCCI and monitoring the situation on a daily basis.

According to a Times of India (TOI) report, the government is fully aware of the ongoing process and will “act whenever required.” Bangladesh has formally requested that its T20 World Cup 2026 matches be moved out of India to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC is yet to respond after initially denying the request.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government responsible for welcoming teams for the multi-national event, sources said India will continue to follow its established sports policy of hosting and welcoming all participating nations.

As per the report, a BCCI source clarified that Bangladesh’s decision to pull out of the T20 World Cup or seek relocation of its matches would be entirely its own, and the first move must come from Dhaka.

“Once their govt makes the stand clear or takes a final decision, only then will Indian authorities react,” BCCI sources said as quoted by TOI.

The source reiterated that Indian authorities would respond only after the Bangladesh government formally clarified its position or took a final call.

What Are The Concerns Of Bangladesh?

Bangladesh’s concerns are reportedly linked to what it describes as rising anti-Muslim sentiment on Indian social media following the mob lynching of Hindu resident Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has also expressed discomfort about sending the team to India after Mustafizur Rahman was ousted from the IPL by the BCCI.

Addressing the security issue, a BCCI source said, “As for the Bangladesh cricket team, there will be full security measures in place. The government’s stand has always been that of welcoming every nation coming here to participate. The ball is in their court whether they want to come or not. The decision is entirely theirs.”

In the latest development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has sent a second formal letter to the ICC, reiterating its firm stance on not playing in India, and has given the global body 48 hours to respond.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 scheduled to begin on February 7, the ICC’s decision is expected to have a major impact on either the BCCI or the Bangladesh cricket team, given Bangladesh’s firm position on the issue.
