Travis Head admitted that the Ashes took a heavy mental toll, making him unlikely to feature in the Big Bash League as he prioritises recovery and World Cup preparations.
Australia batter Travis Head is weighing a short break from cricket after a strong Ashes campaign and a demanding 2025 season. Head featured in all five Tests and topped the run charts, but the sustained workload has taken a toll.
With the T20 World Cup scheduled next month and the IPL to follow, he revealed that he is likely to prioritise recovery. The Big Bash League appears the first competition he may skip, allowing time away in January. Head acknowledged that the Ashes schedule affected him both mentally and physically, even though matches ended quickly.
“Probably unlikely with the emotional drain of an Ashes series, and what’s coming up in terms of the World Cup,” Head said to the Daily Telegraph.
Head has also highlighted concerns over an increasingly crowded calendar. With major tournaments lined up and extended tours ahead, he is keen to manage workload and spend time at home.

“You go into every series wanting to have a good contribution. I felt like I’ve been close to that and played really well. And the emotional drain of actually being in an Ashes series and playing it is always tough. So I think it’s important to go into a World Cup fresh, but we’ll see where we get to though. It’s a concern with how much we’ve already been playing and how much time we’ve got on the road. You look at that year (2027) with the young family as well … my mind’s more so with my family. How can I make that year work?” Travis Head concluded.
