WATCH | Usman Khawaja Laughs at PCB Fine on Pakistan Players

Usman Khawaja reacted to reports of PCB imposing a PKR 5 million fine on Pakistan players after their T20 World Cup exit.

Former Australia opener Usman Khawaja has reacted strongly to reports about the fine imposed by the PCB on Pakistan players after the T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan exited the tournament early after a disappointing campaign. Reports stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board fined each player PKR 5 million. The amount equals about 16.5 lakhs INR per player.

Khawaja discussed the issue in a video shared on Instagram. He said the reports amused him and questioned the reasoning behind the punishment. Khawaja also raised concerns about pressure on players after such decisions.

“I just heard that the Pakistani players got fined after the T20 World Cup. I mean, I didn’t believe it at first, but it must be true. It’s absolutely amazing that the PCB could think this is a good idea. Sorry, I’m laughing because I can’t believe it,” Khawaja said.

“Just think, what high-performance team in the entire world, let alone cricket, fines players for losing games? They’re not trying to lose! How does that even make them perform better next time? It’s in absolute shambles. I really feel for the Pakistani players. Poor Pakistani players,” he added.

In the tournament, Pakistan exited during the Super 8 stage. They secured a win over Sri Lanka in their final Super 8 match. However, the result did not change their position in the standings.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board later also introduced several changes after the campaign. The board removed Babar Azam from the squad for the upcoming series. Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will captain the team in the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh.
