Virat Kohli’s brother Vikas criticised India’s recent Test struggles, hinting that Gautam Gambhir’s bossy approach has led to unnecessary changes and a more defensive mindset.
Vikas Kohli, brother of former India captain Virat Kohli, sparked debate on social media with a pointed remark about India’s recent Test performances. In a short post, he suggested that the team once aimed to win in tough overseas conditions but now appears focused on merely surviving, even at home. He hinted that unnecessary changes within the setup have disrupted a system that previously worked smoothly.
Many fans interpreted his comments as indirect criticism of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who is overseeing a period marked by frequent tactical shifts.
“There was a time that we played to win even in overseas conditions… Now we are playing to save the match…even in India.. This is what happens when u try to boss around and change things unnecessary which were not broken…. (sic),” Vikas Kohli wrote.
Even a Draw Not Enough to Save India From Series Loss
Vikas Kohli’s remarks surface at a time when India continues to struggle in the ongoing home Test series against South Africa. India lost the first Test in Kolkata by 30 runs and finished Day 4 of the Guwahati match facing a possible series defeat. After securing a 288-run first-innings lead, South Africa declared at 260 for 5 and removed two Indian batters before stumps, leaving the hosts chasing 522 runs on the final day. Even a draw would still hand South Africa a 1-0 series win.

A clean sweep would place Gautam Gambhir in unwanted territory as the only Indian Test coach to suffer two home whitewashes. Even a 1-0 defeat would leave him with two home series losses in four attempts and a record of nine defeats in 18 Tests.
