Virat Kohli praised the India women for their record World Cup semifinal win over Australia, calling Jemimah Rodrigues’ match-winning chase a display of passion.
India Women pulled off a record-breaking chase to win against Australia by 5 wickets with 9 balls remaining in the Women’s World Cup semifinal at Navi Mumbai. The home side scripted the highest successful chase ever in a World Cup knockout across both men’s and women’s cricket.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues led the fightback after early setbacks, steering India to a win with a superb 167-run partnership. Rodrigues remained unbeaten, taking her team past Australia’s 338. The result ended Australia’s seven-year unbeaten run in ODI World Cups, their last loss coming against India in 2017.
Former India captain Virat Kohli also congratulated the team on social media, hailing their effort and praising Rodrigues for her standout performance.
“What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India!” Kohli wrote on X.
