Virat Kohli is set to play for Delhi in their sixth Elite Group D match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 against Railways on January 6 in Bengaluru. Delhi and District Cricket Association president Rohan Jaitley confirmed Kohli’s availability on December 29. Kohli had informed the association that he was open to playing three matches in the domestic one-day tournament.
Although the BCCI guideline requires centrally contracted players to feature in at least two games, Kohli opted for an extra outing to stay match-ready. The decision comes ahead of India’s home ODI series against New Zealand later this month.
New Zealand series to begin on January 11
Notably, Kohli made an impact after returning to domestic cricket. He hit 131 while chasing 299 against Andhra Pradesh on December 24. He followed with a 77 from 61 balls against Gujarat, helping Delhi secure a narrow seven-run win on December 26. Virat Kohli also achieved another milestone, becoming the fastest batter to reach 16,000 List A runs.
In other news, the Indian ODI squad for the New Zealand series is set to assemble in Vadodara by January 8, with Kohli likely to report a day earlier for training. The three-match series begins at the same venue on January 11.
