Australia will return to Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series in September 2026, ending an eight-year gap.

In a significant boost for Zimbabwe Cricket, Australia national cricket team are scheduled to tour Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series in September 2026. The matches will be played on September 15, 18, and 20 at the iconic Harare Sports Club.

This tour will mark Australia’s return to Zimbabwe after an eight-year absence. The last time the Kangaroos played in the country was during a T20 tri-series in 2018 involving Pakistan national cricket team and Zimbabwe. Notably, their previous ODI appearance in Zimbabwe dates back to 2014.

Key Preparation Ahead of 2027 World Cup

Zimbabwe Cricket’s managing director Givemore Makoni highlighted the importance of hosting a top-tier side like Australia, especially with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 approaching.

“We are delighted to welcome Australia back to Zimbabwe for what promises to be a highly competitive ODI series. Fixtures of this calibre are vital for our growth as a team. With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 on the horizon, this tour provides invaluable preparation as we build towards hosting the tournament alongside South Africa and Namibia,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“It is also a fantastic opportunity for our fans to experience top-level international cricket at home, and we look forward to strong support at Harare Sports Club,” he continued.

Zimbabwe Eye More International Fixtures

Zimbabwe Cricket is also working on plans to host Bangladesh national cricket team and Afghanistan national cricket team later this year as part of their strategy to bring more international cricket to the country.

The board is actively encouraging touring teams in nearby South Africa to include Zimbabwe in their schedules. Additionally, efforts are underway to secure high-profile bilateral series against teams like Australia and England national cricket team in late 2026.

Zimbabwe is also keen to expand its presence in red-ball cricket during the next World Test Championship cycle. There is growing optimism that England could visit for a one-off Test in 2027, following their recent return to playing against Zimbabwe after a long hiatus.
