Bangladesh Players’ PSL 2026 Participation Uncertain Amid Government Clearance

Bangladesh Coach Accuses Asif Nazrul of U-Turn on World Cup Decision

Bangladesh players’ participation in PSL 2026 remains uncertain as the BCB awaits government clearance amid rising security concerns, despite granting initial NOCs.

The participation of Bangladesh cricketers in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 now hangs in the balance, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) making government clearance a mandatory requirement. Despite granting No Objection Certificates (NOCs) earlier, the board has taken a cautious approach due to the evolving security situation in the region.

A total of six Bangladeshi players, Mustafizur Rahman, Parvez Hossain Emon, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Rishad Hossain, were picked in the PSL 2026 auction and initially cleared to participate. However, rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have prompted the BCB to reassess the situation before allowing players to travel.

“Of course, we will seek permission from the government before sending our cricketers for the PSL. Under normal circumstances, these things are not required. We provide clearance; they go, play, and return. But since the situation is not normal and there is a risk element concerning the players, obviously we will discuss it with the government,” BCB cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Thursday.

Final Call Hinges on Security Assessment

The BCB has made it clear that the final decision will depend entirely on the government’s assessment of safety conditions in Pakistan. The board emphasized that it is not in a position to independently evaluate the ground realities.

“We will seek to know from the government whether it will be safe to travel or not, and based on that government decision, we will have to take the ultimate call on whether the players will go or not. Because it is not actually possible for us to understand the situation there. It is possible for the government to know. The government will know, and if the government tells us that it is safe to go and the players can travel, then the players will go. But, in principle, we have decided that we will give the NOC, and they will go to play. But it depends on the situation at that time,” he added.

Scheduling Challenges With New Zealand Series

If the players receive clearance and travel for PSL 2026, it could impact their international commitments. Bangladesh are set to host New Zealand for a white-ball series next month, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

To manage this, the BCB has issued partial NOCs, allowing players to balance league and national duties. Mustafizur Rahman, who will represent Lahore Qalandars, has been granted clearance from March 26 to April 12 and again from April 24 to May 3. This means he will be available for the ODI series but will miss the T20Is.
