Dale Steyn criticised the growing IPL note celebration trend after Akash Singh’s viral ‘#Akki on Fire’ moment against CSK.
Lucknow Super Giants pacer Akash Singh grabbed attention during the IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings after pulling out another note celebration, but former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn did not appear impressed by the growing trend.
Playing his first match of the season at the Ekana Stadium on May 15, Akash produced an excellent spell and removed Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel. After dismissing the CSK skipper, the left-arm pacer displayed a note carrying the message, “#Akki on fire – Akash knows how to take wickets in T20 game.”

The paper-note celebration became popular in IPL last season and several players have repeated it since then. However, Steyn criticised the trend on X soon after Akash’s celebration went viral.
“Time to put the papers away. It ain’t trending no more. Actually, to be honest, never really was,” he posted.
