Pakistan May Drop Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi for Namibia Match | Reports

Pakistan may drop Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi for the Namibia match after the 61-run loss to India, with team management reportedly frustrated by their form.

Pakistan are reportedly considering dropping former captains Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi for Wednesday’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia. According to Geo News, the team management is unhappy with the recent performance of players.

The review follows Pakistan’s 61-run defeat to India on Sunday, February 15. Babar batted at number four and scored 5 off 7 balls before losing his stumps while attempting a big shot against Axar Patel. Afridi struggled with the ball, conceding 31 runs in 2 overs at an economy rate of 15.50, the highest in the match.

Pakistan could bring in Fakhar Zaman and Naseem Shah if Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi are rested. The Namibia match carries high stakes. A defeat would place Pakistan at risk of elimination from the tournament.

Pakistan Coach Calls For Better Game Awareness

After the defeat against India, Pakistan’s coach Mike Hesson had indicated the squad must improve decision-making under pressure. He also noted that several dismissals came from bad technique and forcing risky shots.

“Look it’s very much when a guy’s putting you under pressure. Are you going to stick to your basics or are you going to go away from that? And I think that’s going to be a real challenge because as the tournament progresses, we’ll be put under pressure again,” he said in the post-match press conference.

“And it’s how we respond when we’re under the pump. All these guys are international players, they’re all good players, but when the pressure comes on, are they going to trust the decision-making or are they going to probably go outside that? That’s something we’re going to have to get better at,” Hesson concluded.
