In the ongoing IND vs SA test, Rishabh Pant scolded Kuldeep Yadav for delaying his over after India received repeated slow over-rate warnings.
Rishabh Pant, leading India in a Test for the first time, showed clear frustration with Kuldeep Yadav during South Africa’s first innings on Day 2 in Guwahati. The moment surfaced in the 88th over when Kuldeep delayed starting his 18th over. This added to earlier concerns over India’s slow movement between overs.
Pant had already warned his fielders about the need to speed up. Kuldeep had received a previous warning for the same issue, and a third warning in an innings would result in a five-run penalty against India. Rishabh Pant was heard scolding Kuldeep Yadav in a tense moment picked up on the stump mic.
“Tees second ka timer hai (the timer has only 30 seconds remaining). Ghar mein khel rahe ho kya (are you playing at home?)? Jaldi daal ek ball (bowl one ball quickly). Yaar, Kuldeep do-do baar warning le li (Brother, Kuldeep we have gotten the warning twice now already),” Pant was heard saying.

Rishabh Pant’s frustration wasn’t aimed only at Kuldeep Yadav. He was also heard urging Washington Sundar to speed up during the second session.

The tension comes from the ICC’s new stop-clock rule, which now applies to Test matches in the 2025–27 cycle. The rule gives the fielding side 60 seconds to start the next over after the previous one ends. Umpires hand out two warnings if a team takes too long. A third delay in the same innings gives the batting side five penalty runs.
