India’s Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of cricket for three months with an abdominal injury.
India’s Shreyas Iyer will miss at least three months of cricket due to an abdominal injury sustained last month. The middle-order batter suffered the injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.
Iyer is set to miss India’s upcoming ODI series against South Africa and New Zealand, along with the 2026 T20 World Cup. Reports from Dainik Jagran indicate he may also miss the initial matches of IPL 2026, with a potential return during the Afghanistan series in June 2026.
Recovery Timeline and Medical Assessment
The Mumbai batter has returned home after being hospitalized following what was described as a “life-threatening” injury. Recent ultrasonography tests showed improvement in his condition under Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala’s supervision.
Medical advice requires Iyer to avoid any activities that stress his abdominal area. He will undergo another USG test in two months to determine if he can continue rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Iyer remains a crucial part of India’s ODI setup. He scored over 500 runs in the 2023 World Cup and was India’s highest run-scorer in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
In the IPL, the Punjab Kings captain scored 600-plus runs in his debut season while leading the franchise to the final. The team had acquired him for Rs 26.75 crore in the 2025 mega auction.
