Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur will receive the Padma Shri for their contributions to the sport. The honour recognises their impact across leadership, performance, and legacy.
Rohit’s award follows a highly successful phase as India men’s captain. He led the team to the Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025. He retired from T20 Internationals after the 2024 triumph and stepped away from Test cricket in 2025. He now plays only One Day Internationals. Across formats, Rohit has scored 20,109 international runs, including 50 centuries and 111 half-centuries.
Harmanpreet’s award comes after a historic achievement in women’s cricket. She captained India to their first ICC Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. India defended 299, bowling South Africa out for 246 in 45.3 overs. Harmanpreet became the second Indian captain to win a World Cup at home after MS Dhoni in 2011.
