Virat Kohli Test Return on the Cards? Childhood Coach Drops Major Hint

Virat Kohli could return to India’s Test side as childhood coach Rajkumar revealed discussions are ongoing.

Virat Kohli’s possible return to Test cricket has once again become a major talking point after fresh comments from his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. Kohli retired from Tests on May 12, 2025 after a celebrated career that produced 9230 runs in 123 matches between June 2011 and January 2025.

Even more than 1 year after his retirement, fans continue to hope for a comeback in whites. Rajkumar Sharma added fuel to the speculation after revealing that he recently discussed the matter with Kohli.

In a video circulating online, Sharma said many fans had urged him to convince Kohli to reverse his decision because the former India captain still listens to him closely. When asked directly whether he spoke to Kohli about returning to Test cricket, Sharma replied that discussions are ongoing.

“Many people have told me to ask Virat to return to Test cricket because he listens to you. We are talking about it; let’s see what happens.”

Notably, Kohli’s test career included 30 centuries, 31 half-centuries and 7 double hundreds, while his highest score remained an unbeaten 254 against South Africa in 2019.

Kohli finished as India’s fourth-highest Test run-scorer behind Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar.
