Virat Kohli Shuts Down Test Return Rumours After Record ODI Hundred

Virat Kohli ended the rumours about his Test return by saying he will continue playing only one format even after his latest ODI century.

Virat Kohli produced another excellent knock in the IND vs SA match in Ranchi, earning the Player of the Match award after scoring his 52nd ODI century. The knock also triggered speculation about Virat Kohli’s possible Test return, especially after India’s recent struggles in the format.

Kohli, however, made his position clear after the match, confirming that he intends to continue playing only one format. He added that staying fit and mentally focused remains his priority as he continues in international cricket.

“Yes, that’s how it’s always going to be. I’m just playing one form of the game,” Kohli said.

“I’ve played 300 ODIs over 15–16 years, and as long as I’m in touch with the game—reflexes sharp, fitness intact, and able to bat long in the nets—I know I’m meeting all the markers. If there’s a dip in form, you look for games. But if you’re hitting well and mentally ready, experience takes over. For me, it’s about staying fit, focused, and excited to play—everything else follows,” he added.

A recent Cricbuzz report had indicated that discussions may have begun within Indian cricket circles about asking Virat Kohli to reconsider his Test retirement, with another recently retired player also believed to be open to a return.
