WATCH | ‘IPL Question’ Leaves Kusal Mendis in Awkward Silence in PSL Press Conference

Kusal Mendis was left in awkward silence during a PSL 2026 post-match press conference after an IPL-related question, forcing intervention from the media manager.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis faced an awkward moment after Peshawar Zalmi’s win over Lahore Qalandars in Karachi on Saturday. He scored 74 off 48 balls and earned the Player of the Match award.

The situation changed for Kusal Mendis during the post-match press conference. A journalist questioned his 2025 exit from the Pakistan Super League to join the Gujarat Titans. The query also mentioned his earlier security concerns.

“Last year, Kusal, you withdrew from the Pakistan Super League to play for the Gujarat Titans midway through the tournament, and you cited security concerns. Now, the Pakistan Super League is giving you respect again and they did not pick you again. So, do you have any regret about withdrawing from Pakistan Super League last year?” the journalist asked.

Mendis appeared surprised and responded with a brief, uneasy reaction. The media manager stepped in quickly and asked reporters to focus on PSL matters. The journalist continued to defend the question, calling it relevant to the league. Mendis, however, chose to remain silent.
