Babar Azam hits back at comparisons with Virat Kohli while leading Peshawar Zalmi to a thrilling win in PSL 2026.
The Babar Azam and Virat Kohli comparison has been one of the hottest topics in the cricket world in recent times. In the latest development, Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar, who is currently leading the team in PSL 2026, was asked about his ability to finish games while chasing and was compared to the India great, Virat Kohli.
Babar did not take the question lightly and frustratingly retorted to the Pakistan reporter who questioned him.
Babar Frustrated With Kohli Comparison
During a media interaction following the team’s thrilling last-ball win against Hyderabad Kingsmen on Wednesday, Babar faced a pointed question from the reporter regarding his supposed inability to finish matches when compared to Virat Kohli.
“Khatam kardein aap. Jis wajah se aap sawal kar rahe hain, chor dein usko. Acha aage? (You should drop this question. Let’s move on)”

Babar Azam strongly disagreed with the journalist, stopping his question midway and clearly expressing his frustration. When asked about polishing his finishing skills, Babar stated that he is working on it across different conditions and variables that yield different results.
“The main thing is the match scenario – what the team requires, what’s the run rate, condition of the pitch – you have to plan your game accordingly. Sometimes, you may feel it’s an easy pitch, but you cannot execute or the shots aren’t going through the gaps. You keep trying but aren’t able to score runs. I try to focus on my strength and gameplan. Everyone has to improve, you keep learning something new every day. We are also human beings and try to get better. The results take time to reflect.”
“Finish kaafi matches kiye hain. Aapko lagta hai maine nahi kiye hain but maine bohot matches finish kiye hue hain. (You may think I don’t finish matches, but I have, a lot of them).”
For the unaware, Babar Azam scored 43 runs off 37 deliveries as Peshawar Zalmi defeated Kingsmen by four wickets in a last-over thriller. With their second win in the PSL, Peshawar Zalmi climbed to the fifth spot on the points table, with Babar Azam confidently guiding the team towards a playoff spot.
