Shaheen Afridi Fined PKR 1 Million for PSL Security Breach

Shaheen Afridi was fined PKR 1 million by Lahore Qalandars for breaching PSL security protocols after escorting visitors to a hotel room.

Lahore Qalandars fined Shaheen Afridi PKR 1 million after a security breach during PSL 2026. The penalty equals around USD 3600. The action followed an incident involving Afridi and Sikandar Raza.

Punjab Police reported that both players requested entry for 4 visitors. Authorities denied permission at the team hotel. Despite this, the visitors entered and stayed for nearly 3 hours.

Sikandar Raza accepted responsibility for the hotel incident involving 4 visitors. He stated that Shaheen Afridi acted on his request. Raza said the visitors were his family and friends. He added they remained in the room for around 40 minutes.

“Shaheen didn’t force anyone. My friends and family had come, and at my request, Shaheen helped them (come up to my room). If these were the SOPs, I wasn’t aware, and to some extent, Shaheen wasn’t aware either. The culprit here is me, not Shaheen. He went down on my request, because it was my close family and friends; I didn’t want to meet them in the business centre. We sat upstairs for 40 minutes,” Raza said.

The franchise treated the matter as a disciplinary issue. It informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about the decision. Qalandars also submitted a detailed explanation of the incident. The franchise then appreciated the role of security personnel in maintaining safety.

“In the interest of maintaining discipline and demonstrating accountability, the franchise has taken a voluntary and proactive step by imposing a fine of PKR 1 million on Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement. Lahore Qalandars has also formally communicated a detailed response, along with its observations on the matter, to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB),” read a release from the Qalandars.

“The franchise expressed its sincere appreciation for the efforts of security personnel, recognising their essential role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for players, officials, and spectators. While underscoring that the matter arose from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate attempt to violate established procedures, Lahore Qalandars reiterated its full respect for all security protocols.” it added.
